WordPress2.6 Released
By Derrick | July 17, 2008
I’ve just updated this blog to WordPress 2.6, and I’ll be going through all my niche blogs as well. WordPress 2.6 introduces much better plug-in management. You can now delete unused plugins from within the WordPress admin panel, and you can select and activate multiple plugins at once. The last feature is probably the main reason I upgraded.
Although the Automatic Upgrade plugin makes it really quick and easy to update your installation, it would always de-activate all my plugins and not reactivate them again. Manually reactivating plugins over a slow Internet connection is tedious – I get sidetracked while waiting for the page to refresh, so it takes me 10 times longer than it should.
There are a bunch of other minor issues that have been changed or improved in WordPress 2.6 – you can read about them at Technosailor’s blog

Thanks for the upgrade plugin.
I think wordpress should just automatically update all patches. I see alot of commercial blogs out there running ver <= 2.3 which is just full of exploits.

I myself will wait for the fall out from the update.

I am not a fan of the post revision feature, it loads your database with crap you don’t need. And I don’t even want to use the feature. I am holding off upgrading on most of my blogs at this stage because of this.

Thanks, i’ll update my blog soon for better performance. I hope there will be no database or plugin problem.

It seems to me you should consider upgrading you internet connection… if you get sidetracked while waiting for a page to refresh! Never had those problems, not even with WP 2.3

I’ve never been a fan of wordpress, but I am finding it even more and more difficult to not embrace this piece of software with the many great improvements that it has.

I found that you need to deactivate many plugins with an upgrade anyways since often they won’t work with a new version – the automatic upgrade works nicely for me

I hope WP 2.6 is a bit more secure. I used to use WP, but my site got hacked. Not being to tech savvy I didn’t know that WordPress has a terrible history of getting hacked. I read even Al Gore has had his hacked. So, I jost removed their message and links. A few days later I was hacked again and had my entire database and files deleted

I agree that all future WP upgrades could be done automatically with an option to upgrade or not. Press of a button. Made simple…

So did you run into any problems with the upgrade. My last upgrade was an absolute nightmare.
