There’s an interesting discussion going on at Problogger: Should you add Keywords to the Name Field when you Leave Comments on a Blog?
Some people get really upset about this. I can understand why – keywords in the name field do look spammy. But my feeling is – as long as they’re commenting, I don’t really mind the keywords. I don’t do it myself, though.
The discussion reminded me that I haven’t tried a plug-in recommended some time ago by Steven Lohrenz: it’s called KeywordLuv, by Stephen Cronin, and it allows commenters to add their keywords after their name, like this: Derrick@Online Business Blog. The keywords are applied to the commenter’s URL. So my example would appear like this: Derrick from Online Business Blog
This seems to me like a reasonable solution. It’s only of value if the WordPress default ‘NoFollow’ tag is removed – I use Denis de Bernardy’s ‘DoFollow’ plugin. By the way, there’s an interesting post on Google’s official blog from 2 years ago where they discuss the introduction of the NoFollow tag, and the reasoning behind it. The fact that it penalizes legitimate commenters seems to be ignored.

My mugshot.
Hi,
Yes now i use the my name in the field after the keywordluv plug-in came.It allow us to leave the keyword in the name field with our name.
Yes, I always put my keyword on every post especially if the blog has Keyword luv plugins.
Nofollow was introduced to curb the comment spam problem and to allow sites to link to other sites telling search engines that they did not trust the destination of the link 100%. Valid, useful comments with related links are still very good. If it’s not related it’s not that good and might be ingored if without nofollow.
Google does not want people to know that much about do follow. They never talk much about that only how many links you should haveon one page or good and bad links. I like keyword luv makes sense if you allow follow links let the person use keywords for that link.
Nice article – a great way to show repsect to your readers and to encourage a bit of debate…sometimes people need a bit of a push/incentive to do so! I’m sure you’ll have seen traffic increase significantly though as a result, at least I hope so!
Hi,
Many times people are scared of linking out because they fear a page rank leak. I can tell you there is no such thing. The web is based upon links and search engines do not penalize us for linking out.
It does look a little spammy, but that the whole purpose behind the plug in is to encourage postings and in turn you get a link.
Thanks.
This is very informative. I’m kinda new in this plugin. Does this plugin really helps to drive traffic in your blog? I’m Just curious. Hope to get an answer. thanks!
@Laura,
This plugin really works, it helps lots of new and old bloggers increase the traffic in their blogs. I have been using this for quite some time now and I can say the change is noticeable. I suggest you should try it.

Dofollow does encourage people to post and it helps add so much value to their website. Its like I post a good comment, you give me a link in return.
Thnaks.

A huge part of the blogging community is collaboration and the way to attain that is by linking in and linking out.
Google rewards both sides of that equation!

Hi,
I have been using keywordluv on my site, and I really don’t see what the big deal is about using keywords because they don’t look that spamming when they are implemented.
Thanks.
Nice one, i really like the way you talk about commenting and linking back. I think we’re all craving for links for our website, but at the same time it’s time for us to have respect and some intelligence to at least make some comments. The link should act like a reward.. not a prerequisite. Cheers and keep it up

Thanks for the information, I was a little unsure but you guys have cleared some issues up. Much appreciated, I think keywordluv is great.
it does look spammy before CommentLuv or KEywordluv came in.

Hi,
I think keywordluv shows it best (name from keyword). It gives your readers a reason to comment, and keeps the comments from looking too bad.
Thanks for sharing post.
I am going to create a blog soon ad conduct a kind of survey on utilizing reusable bags and their recycling. KeywordLuv Plugin is what I really missed and I feel really thankful for providing.
i am in love with comment love blogs :p
I would that it is the easiest way to get your quality back links. If you want quality back links, just comment with a sense. This plugin really makes optimization cheaper and you got the desired effect faster as blogs are more preferred by Google.
ehh.. informative

Luv keywordluv blogs.. they encourage people to leave comments.. not all of them are dofollow though.
I think that it’s a great plug in and I’ve found that it’s very well received by my commenters.

This is a great tool for bloggers…all thou it gets difficult to find such blogs that have keywordluv or commentluv enabled. I installed this on my blog and I ended up getting a lot more spam then I wanted. But it is a great way to generate backlinks!

Hi! My name is David. Great post about the debate of the dofollow attribute and whether people should put their keywords in their post name. Here’s how I see it: If I feel that the visitor has indeed read or at least skimmed my post I accept their comment because I can see they’re at least trying and using their brain. But, if i get comments like, “hey dude, cool post” i delete right away – spam. anyways, thanks! david

Surely, NoFollow tags really suck.
but it depends upon use of blogger, individual.
if somebody wants to get prevented from spamming and wants to use NoFollow then you can’t help.
so in that way NoFollow can be counted as of use.
Seems that people are less and less interested in writing comments. But do-follow blogs do encourage them to write more. The reward (the link) at then end makes it worth.. isnt it? But i believe some form of control and moderation are always good, cause on the other side this could be spammers’heaven.
this is right guidence site to post the blogs and thanks for that.
Really great plugin, which gives better results for our sites in search engines..
Thanks for sharing..
I like the ideas of inserting keywords. The name of the plugin “KeywordLuv” suggest to me that the use of keywords is ok. I have just started using CommentLuv and KeywordLuv. Time will tell what is the best use of the plugin.
I also a KeywordLuv fan and i am using it on my blog. Many blog owners don’t allow keywords in Name field and this is a great option for them, however even with KeywordLuv installed some people don’t use it and comment with keyword in name field,i approve that comments too if they are relevant and add some value to discussion.

Hi all…
The use of keywords in names field looked really spammy. But now with commentluv and keywordluv plugins its very encouraging to do the same. I love both plugins.
I put my keywords when keywordluv plug-in is installed. But I don’t really mind if putting only my name of name field.

Great post. It is harder now because people just do not have the money to go out and buy a new car.
People are also afraid to buy right now fearing they may later lose their job and now have this car payment they can’t afford.+I went through BMW financial .9% ZERO DOWN! For people like me it’s all about rate get the rate down and people will buy.
Yes..B’coz it’s best way to get ranking on that keyword…Great post
If you put a fake name or a keyword does not make a big difference for a blog.

I was iunder tge impression that keywords were always a good thing but would be interested to hear if anyone has any other ideas on the subject
Only if those keywords are relevant to your site and its business.
Very pleasing blog, i like the articles out here!
An interesting read! Keep up the awesome posts!
By the way, KeywordLuv is amazing. I use it on all of my blogs and it really does increase the amount of REAL comments from readers, as there is an incentive for them to post.

I bought the SD110 (3.2MP) back in 2004 and decided it was time to upgrade this year as it was showing some age. The latest version of that same line is the SD1200. I have had it for a few weeks now and have a few observations. The SD1200 is much faster from the time you turn it on until it is ready to shoot as compared to the SD110. Next, the screen is far better than the one on the SD110. Very bright and readable even in sunlight. The camera itself is smaller than the SD110 as you might expect but does feel a little cheaper.
I don’t think it will prevent people from spam. You should better set a new spam filter to fight spammers away.
Nice site, have bookmarked it and will be returning soon
I use Keywordluv, Commentluv, and sport a Do-Follow plugin. I feel it’s a good trade-off for the interaction, and as I read on another blog recently, any blog that has all three is pure gold!
I like keywordLuv that can bring lots of comment and traffic, but take care of spam.
