Selling Services to Local Businesses
By Derrick | April 27, 2009
You can make a comfortable living selling Internet marketing services to local businesses. More and more people are using the Internet to search for local suppliers of items they want to buy, and business owners are becoming more aware of the importance of getting a high search engine ranking.
Some business owners are even starting to understand that it’s not really about the amount of traffic they get to their website, but about the number of visitors who convert into buyers.
And a standard Internet marketing tool, the autoresponder, provides an excellent way for any business to follow up with its customers – whether they’ve just bought a swimming pool or a can of paint.
What kind of services can you sell? Well, search engine optimization is a service which many websites desperately need. Increasing traffic through link building – article marketing, social media, bookmarking – is another useful service to offer. Copywriting, tracking and testing, and newsletter management are also in demand.
Business owners are interested in getting the Internet to work for them, but as a general rule they aren’t interested enough to do it themselves. They’d rather employ someone who has the knowledge and understanding of online marketing to handle their website promotion. And that’s where you come in.
At some point, you’ll probably find yourself explaining what it is you can do for your new small business client. Because they don’t have the background knowledge you have, it’s easy to lose them and be confronted by blank stares.
I’ve put together a short video training course aimed at small business owners, which is intended to give them a basic understanding of what Internet marketing is about. It’s pure information – no pitchfest here.
Take a look – hopefully you’ll learn something too!
It’s called eMarketing Essentials and there’s no charge – not even an opt-in.
Let me know what you think!

It’s not often that you see a tutorial like this in the sense that the author says it’s free of charge and it’s really free of charge.
I would check this out (seriously)at home. I’ll be back tomorrow to share my thoughts on the video.
I would like to point out that people who leave their comments here are already making a living by offering services that you mentioned in the post.
Now, for people who are new to this, I would like to say that you have been given the foundation with that idea of offering services to local business. I strongly suggest you watch the video and learn from the man born for marketing.

It’s a tricky thing because local businesses don’t always have a national mindset. And most online marketers have a national or international mindset.

Don’t forget that your local chambers of commerce are a good venue to promote your web services. Usually if one or two businesses adopt you than it’s easier to market to their retail/commercial neighbors. Check to see when they have their regular new business meet-and-greets.

For a long time I only looked online for work. But a recent house remodel introduced me to several contractors who said they needed a website when they found out what I did. It made me realize just how many local people do not have a site that want an online precense.

By the way of link building technique, we can attract the local clients, because, first the consumers search product locally.
The poster has mentioned good ideas.

We can boost our business by applying the techniques of link building, because each client may be given preference first to the product which are available in local market rather to order from abroad.

I’ve increasingly noticed small businesses in my area pooling their resources and developing a single site for all of them (in this instance they are all located in an arcade)…
I actually think this is a very good idea, given that for each of them to do there own marketing, SEO etc it is not worthwhile, but all together it makes commercial sense…
I wonder if there are businesses out there that specialise in this kind of thing?
