Making money from Open Source software

Steven Lohrenz has taken a classic Open Source project, PhpList, and adapted it for use by online marketers. Following the model used by companies like Red Hat software and IBM, he’s released his modified version for free, and is making money on support.
PhpList is a server-based list manager, which allows you to send email messages automatically to a list of subscribers. Because you have total control of the software, you can add names and email addresses directly to the subscriber list.
Steven has modified the code so that it is able to send a different version of your article to each recipient. Each variant is entirely under your control - there is no dictionary-based substitution or any of that nonsense. It works in exactly the same way as the article generation systems for Content Spooling Network and JetSpinner.
When you download the software, you get a perfectly servicable short installation guide (which points you to the online documentation). Steven explains how to build (or buy) a publisher list, and how to write articles for the system.
I would strongly urge you to buy the videos he offers. PhpList has a few quirks, and although you should find everything you need in the documentation, it’s much quicker if you have Steven’s guidance. Alternatively, if you have more money than time, Steven offers a full installation servce.
