As any fule kno, PageRank is merely a huge scam perpetrated by the not-evil geniuses at Google. Certainly, Google uses PR to rate the “worthiness” (sponge-worthiness?) of websites – but their internal PR algorithm is a far cry from the little green bar we see on our desktop (if we’re desperate enough to install the Google Bar, thus admitting that we’re interested in such things).
Unfortunately, PR does have a place in the real world. The higher the PR of your page, the easier it is to get people to pay you for advertising space. Otherwise sensible, intelligent folks have been known to go crazy at the thought of advancing from a PR3 to a PR4.
Dean Hunt has started a meme for all those who are bored with the PageRank update saga – the intention is to improve PageRank, rather than just sit around in the forums talking about it.

PR drives people crazy. Web masters need to understand that they can earn a good amount of money even if they have a PR of 0.
Page rank is an indicator of how well a site is doing, like seagulls behind a fishing boat show it has made a catch, but it is not the holy grail.
Any site can do well, but a higher PR number gives the site owner more confidence in the ability of the site to perform.
But that does not mean I follow big G slavishly, and I hate how long it takes them to update PR whenever they do.
