Does Outsourcing Work For You?
By Derrick | February 17, 2009
Small business owners often try to do everything themselves. This can work when a new business is just getting off the ground, as it keeps costs down. But as a business acquires more clients, it becomes more and more difficult for the business owner to do everything.
One way to solve this problem is for the business owner to identify the tasks which they do not want to do themselves – the repetitive, boring jobs which need to be performed consistently every day – and to get someone else to do them. In a brick and mortar business, this might mean hiring an employee. For online businesses, it usually means finding someone online.
Outsourcing repetitive Internet marketing tasks to someone thousands of miles away is easier than ever, thanks to websites like Elance.com, Guru.com and RentACoder.com.
I’m interested in learning about your outsourcing experience – maybe you could take a few minutes to fill in a quick survey for me, at OutsourceFreedom.com.

Outsourcing does save a ton of time. Any thing that you would rather not do you probably will not do well, so finding someone to take care of it for you and do it well is definitely worth it!

I think it would depend on how much you are willing to spend and what quality you are expecting in return. If you are scrimmping for the cheapest Indian on the block, but want the standards of silicon valley enterprises, you are probably just going to be disappointed.
I’ve never outsourced, but I’ve had staff and I often found that I would have to re-do their work because it wasn’t good enough.

Nice, keep posting such stuff in the future as well. We will be looking at you.
Thanks

I think that for any new online business that after the initial SEO that it should be outsourced due to the fact that it is time consuming.

Agree wholeheartedly, The sign of a good business is one that can run without the business owner being there.
As soon as I’m earning enough I’m going to outousrce 90% of my tasks.

@David – you know what they say, when all else fails, lower your standards!
It’s a good point. There are so many badly written articles out there, I’d hate to perpetrate even more.
But there’s no reason why an outsourcer shouldn’t be capable of writing as well as you.
And when it comes to repetitive tasks, I don’t have the discipline (or you could say I have an overactive imagination!)

Outsourcing has been good and bad for me. When I first tried it I had some things to learn about picking someone to do the job. As I have done it more often I have gotten really good at being specific with what I want and what I will accept from them. The last few have gone great and I have a couple of guys that I work with often now.

I’ve outsourced content on several occasions and it can be a huge time saver. As long as you find someone reputable to do it for you then I definitely recommend it.

For good or for bad, I’m only outsourcing to family. First, there’s the trust factor involved and second, it helps out in these tough economic times. It might be a mistake with arguments in the future, but I can’t afford to outsource until I make a steady and reliable income.

Most entrepreneurs get into business because they are good at doing or selling something. When you spend 100% of your time doing that, you limit your opportunity to achieve more.
No one is good at everything. You’re probably doing things that you hate to do, which means you may not do them correctly, if at all. When you consider outsourcing, there are important questions to ask yourself first. It would be ineffective to hire someone and just say, “take over, just do something”.

I think outsourcing plays vital role in cutting down the labor costs but it often raises questions regarding quality

I totally believe in outsourcing work out having done it myself and seeing good results. The time you saved can make you more productive but you must learn to manage this process well.

I’d say outsourcing can be very helpful but only if you’ve really done your homework on the group you’re outsourcing to. I’ve experienced bad outsourcing groups lose sells for me and tell my customers incorrect information. So be careful!

I definitely recommend looking into outsourcing, but you do have to be careful who you hire. There are a lot of low end freelance workers offering low prices. If you can find reliable people, you can expand your business much easier with minimal cost. Think of how much extra you could do if you could get someone else to do things for you….things like article/content writing and various link building techniques.

I think outsourcing works great for online work. Not sure about actual work in field. Some times companies will try to find out who you outsource to and go around you to get better price. It all depends on what type of work you out source but it can save time and money.

Outsourcing has its advantages and disadvantages and you, as the business owner, is the only one you can determine if outsourcing is the best choice. If you do choose to outsource some or all of your services, then there are highly qualified professionals who can do the job and provide leverage for your business.

I think the key to success in outsourcing is knowing how well the person you will outsource your work to will be able to carry out what you need them to do.
A through interview would make this process safer for the person looking to outsource. By knowing what the employee can and cannot do is valuable knowledge that employers should base their decisions on before outsourcing.

I have had decent success with hiring freelance employees on elance and certain forums. It can be hit and miss though. Often the lower price freelancers produce low quality work.
June 17th, 2009 at 3:45 am
I have tried outsourcing and I can say that this is surely a good way to cut the cost of labor. It is really effective provided that fact that there are lots of talented individual in the internet that are willing to get paid at the lower cost.

I think outsourcing can work for some and at the same time be seen as an unnecessary expense for others. I guess it just depends on the size of your budget and the time you have to complete all your work.

They are outsourcing to India when it comes to call centers. Try calling Dell, HP, LinkSys or PayPal for assistance (I’ve done all 4) and I get someone who English isn’t their first or second language as they are reading from scripts.
I don’t think any company is going to public post that as it then shows how they are taking US jobs and moving them out of here just to make their bottom line look better.

Well, i agree that outsourcing caould be a way for cutting costs. Howeverm it should be cleverly done, cause it doesnt help at all to get your reputation ruined because of dodgy outsourcing companies. ALso, i ve found out that many small and medium industries are now turning to invoice factoring. In this difficult economic situation, it helps a lot…

I wok on behalf of a medium sized office interior design company and have to agree that outsourcing part of our marketing activities definitely helped us a lot. Particularly in areas that we dont master e.g Pay-Per-Click campaigns & SEO. I believe if you are not specialist in something it can be better for you to focus on your main business and leave this to the specialists.

Busines outsourcing is great because you don’t need to go in other places just to take business out here. Outsourcing gives you a chance to earn money from other countries. It’s nice. Actually i am working in an outsourcing company now.

The key to outsourcing working successfully for you is to be really clear about what you want and when you want it by. And interview candidates before you hire them. Look at their resume. Threat it like you are hiring an employee to work for your company because that is what you are doing. If you do your work upfront your outsourcing will work for you.

Well outsourcing is two ways, it can be beneficial at one time and can be a disaster at other time.. it Truly depends for what you use outsourcing and what kind of outsourcing. But never-the-less, it the way the future is going and so is everyone and unless and until you put your hands in you shall never reap the benefits of outsourcing as well.

I believe you should outsource anything that is not within your own skill set or is your core business.
